About microdermabrasion results and uses

How to get effective microdermabrasion results?

What is microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion systems come in two types – the first on the market were micro-crystal microdermabrasion kits – those which use a spray of non-allergenic micro-crystals to remove the outermost layer of your skin revealing a younger and healthier complexion. The more recent version of microdermabrasion, are the diamond tip products which scratch away grime and dry/dead skin cells.

The two types achieve microdermabrasion results in a slightly different way:

Micro-crystal units ‘blast’ the skin with a high speed stream of minuscule aluminium oxide crystals which literally blast away the topmost layer of cells. Diamond tip systems ‘scratch’ away the top layer using the strength of the laser cut diamond on the end of a wand. The latter system is generally thought to be preferable as the risk to the eyes is considerably lower.

Used regularly, microdermabrasion results in the production of new skin cells which manufacturers say contains higher levels of collagen and elastin making your skin feel tighter and ore youthful than it did before.

Which type of system is right for me?

You may prefer micro-crystal microdermabrasion if you have:

  • Deep lines or scars
  • Much texture variation on your face
  • sagging

You may prefer diamond tip microdermabrasion if you have:

  • small wrinkles
  • a desire for intense exfoliation
  • have sun damaged skin

Is microdermabrasion the same as dermabrasion?

No. Microdermabrasion results in a far gentler procedure which can help to reduce or eliminate wrinkles and fine lines, light acne scars and pigmentation spots which may appear over time. Dermabrasion is more intensive and used to tackle deeper facial issues likes scars and serious damage caused by the sun.

Who is microdermabrasion for?

The gentle spray of micro-crystals or diamond tip system used in microdermabrasion is suitable for any adult with minor skin imperfections. It is not an instant cure for fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, sun damage and clogged pores like blackheads…but, it can help improve the appearance or eliminate these blemishes over time. For this reason, having a kit at home can prove an excellent investment and you will be thrilled with the microdermabrasion results you achieve.

Is microdermabrasion any good for blackheads and other acne?

Microdermabrasion results in a gradual reduction and sometimes complete elimination of minor scars left behind by acne. It is not recommended for deep scars or active acne.

Who should avoid microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is not for pregnant women. If you have recently had a chemical peel, then you must wait two to three weeks before any microdermabrasion treatment. It is not recommend for those with active keloids, undiagnosed lesions, after a recent herpes outbreak, facial warts or an autoimmune disorder. It should also be avoided if you have unstable diabetes.

So how to choose a kit to enjoy effective microdermabrasion results?

You’ll want to consider these factors:

  • Power – The most important factor when comparing machines is how much suction power they have to suck away dead skin cells. The higher the suction, the better the results.
  • Results – Although you won’t see elimination of scars and wrinkles from the first use, you DO want to feel that your skin is softer right from the start. You can realistically expect to see scars fading and skin tightening after a full month of use.
  • Durability – it’s no good buying the cheapest machine online that’s going to break after a few months use so do heed the reviews, go for a product with a decently long warranty and you’ll still be using it in a few years time.
  • Accessories and replacement parts – check to see whether spare parts and accessories are readily available before you buy. You don’t want to buy a new product that you can’t replace when parts get worn.
  • Price – naturally you’ll have a budget but remember this: It may be worth saving that little bit longer to get a truly awesome machine rather than buying a cheaper one and being disappointed in the microdermabrasion results you see.
